Global Payroll Week 2021 Provides Education, Recognition

By Cynthia Crise

The Global Payroll Management Institute (GPMI) celebrated the fourth annual Global Payroll Week (GPW) 26-30 April. The weeklong event was dedicated to increasing global payroll professionals’ skill levels through multiple education, training, and networking opportunities. The week recognized payroll professionals around the world for their essential efforts to pay employees accurately and on time, every time.

Week-Long of Educational Content

One of the main goals of GPW is to provide educational opportunities for global payroll professionals. During the week, GPMI hosted two complimentary webinars for the global payroll community.

More than 1,300 individuals registered to attend the presentation “NelsonHall: Payroll Services Market Overview” and a panel discussion with GPW sponsors on “Navigating Through the Challenges of Global Payroll.” Both GPW webinars are currently available on demand, and all attendees are eligible to earn one recertification credit hour (RCH) per webinar.

Along with the complimentary webinars, GPMI published and shared new content for the global payroll community. This included the release of a new white paper, Global Payroll Management Demystified, and mini email guides throughout the week that took a deep dive into global payroll topics that are top of mind for today’s international payroll leaders.

Exclusive Industry Insight

GPMI also hosted the annual “Getting the World Paid” survey as part of its GPW celebration. The annual survey is an important tool to gauge industry trends in the rapidly evolving global payroll landscape. Nearly 600 global payroll professionals from countries around the world participated in the survey in the months leading up to GPW. Their responses revealed insights on topics such as technology, standardization, service providers, and data accuracy.

Full results from the survey were published on the GPMI website during GPW, and select results were also used to create a series of infographics for global payroll professionals to share with their online communities.

Recognition for Global Payroll Professionals

GPMI held its second annual Global Payroll Titan award program in conjunction with GPW. The program celebrates, empowers, and recognizes the outstanding professionals responsible for processing multi-country payrolls.

Nominations opened on 12 February, with GPMI receiving more than 30 nominations. All eligible nominees then moved forward to a public “People’s Choice” online vote in April, where more than 4,000 votes were cast for the nominees, participants felt best represented a Global Payroll Titan. Each nomination was then reviewed by a panel of global payroll professionals, and one nominee emerged as the clear winner.

On the final day of GPW, Davida Lara, CPP, Executive Vice President of Payroll Services at Entertainment Partners, was revealed as the 2021 Global Payroll Titan. Lara has more than two decades of experience in the payroll industry, where she has gained extensive expertise developing systems, process automation, and training personnel.

Social Media Impact

Social media was a popular way to engage the international community and share in GPW festivities online. Daily online messages that celebrated the global payroll industry and the role they play in getting the world’s workforce paid were shared by global payroll professionals across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram using the official event hashtag #GlobalPayWeek.
