Organizations from six different countries, including the United States, took part in the Global Payroll Management Institute's (GPMI) first international course, “Managing Payroll Operations Across the Globe,” this past March. The two-day certificate program was held in Dublin, Ireland.

Leading the course were Mary Holland, CPP, Global Director, Strategy, Development, and Training for the GPMI; Mark Graham, Chief Revenue Officer at Immedis; and Max van der Klis-Busink, RPP, a global payroll professional based in the Netherlands. During the 3rd Annual Global Payroll Management Forum last month, held in National Harbor, Maryland, Van der Klis-Busink became the first recipient of GPMI’s Global Vision Award.

During the course, instructors explored how people, processes, and technology interconnect with one another, and also covered other course objectives such as:

  • Providing solid business strategies for leading a world-class payroll operation
  • Discussing the importance of culture, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and leading remote global teams
  • Discussing the tools needed to create a robust compliance and control model
  • Identifying continuous process improvements, business strategies, and how to best manage vendor relationships
“Attendees had the opportunity to network with other payroll professionals in an international location and learn more about different countries’ taxation, culture, and compliance,” Holland said.

Aneta Dobrowolska, International Client Operations Manager for Payslip, said the course offered her a chance to meet other global payroll managers and industry colleagues. Dobrowolska added that she particularly enjoyed the interactive part of the learning process.

“The delivery of the course was exceptionally well structured, well-paced, and well executed, which made the content easily understandable and digestible,” she said. “It encouraged honest and open communication amongst everyone, which really helped me to appreciate pressing issues faced by payroll managers.”

The course was such a success, Immedis and GPMI have decided to offer it again in March 2019 and September 2019. Check back at www.gpminstitute.com soon to register.

“For GPMI, it is important to continue providing global offerings and to provide an opportunity for subscribers to connect,” Holland said. “What better place than in a true global setting?”
